Let me start by saying that me and my wife was really looking forward to this tour of Miami by land and boat. When we booked our tour online they didn't allow you to pay by credit card. When we arrived for the tour they informed us it was cash only for the tickets, luckily i had just enough cash to cover the cost. When the tour ended and we were getting off the bus the tour guide lady had a gratuity jar and stated to me and my wife in a rude tone that we don't have to run getting off the bus tips are not required. I tried to explain to her that we are not running and don't have a problem with tipping, we just spent our cash on hand for the tickets not knowing it was cash only. She then put her hand up and said yeah yeah and continued to thank the others for their tips. I'm like wow, really?! I'm not a person who usually complains or even gets upset easily, but this was very disappointing.
The tour had two parts: (1) city sightseeing with the bus, and (2) cruise to see people's mansions. The city tour was less than hour and a half. We stopped at little Havana to go to 3 stores. It was the best part of the tour that took only half an hour out of 5. Then we got into the bus and went to a restaurant to have lunch and wait for the cruise which was going to leave at 4:30 pm. This stop was almost hour and a half. Then we got into a cruise that took us to watch mansions which we did not care for much. (We got into the boat at 4:30, the boat didn't work well so they had us change the boat after half an hour. So the cruise began to move around 5:05 and finished by 6:15 pm; we consider the cruise as a waste of time.) The best part of the tour was the stop at little Havana. If I knew this, I would have taken the Little Havana tour from the get go.
The bus part of the tour really didn't show anything. They took us to a few businesses hoping that we would buy things. I wonder if it was all family related. The boat tour showed us large homes and told us who lived there. Were they correct or just naming random people. So overall not a good choice for a tour.
The check in process went smooth. But, it was all down hill after that. The Little Havana tour was terrible. There was absolutely nothing to see. The guide took us to a redtaurant that sold Mojitos for $10 instead of the one that had a big banner that said $5 Mojito Mondays. Then we go to a clothing store that had all clothing in the store for $39. Yet, I was charged $49 for my purchase. Then it gets worse. We were dropped off at bayside park and told to wait for "The Captain" We along with several other passengers wandered around for 2 hours not knowing where to go or how long to wait. We finally found out where to go by talking to a tour seller. Finally, the boat ride offered great views for pictures but the homes of the rich and famous seemed to be a lie. They told us that a mansion belonged to one person going out to see but on the way back to the dock they told us that the same mansion belonged to someone else as if we didn't notice. I was completely disappointed. Fill up your tank, open goggle maps and go.
The combined bus tour and boat tour were such an incredible bargain! My daughter and I are new Miami residents (from Maryland), and this is just what we needed to dip our toes into Miami culture and see all that this epic town has to offer. Would definitely do this tour again!
Trip was good to see some of the Miami area including Little Havana as well as the bay and harbor area. Bus and Boat rides were complementary. Enjoyed both. Tour guides were funny and personable!!! Only draw back was waiting times between venues in Little Havana and getting to the boat. Spent about 1 hour waiting for activities of the 5 hour tour.
When the guides tell you that tips are part of their salary, you want to advise them to make sure the company pays them properly. The excursion to Little Havana was truly disappointing, assuming the tourists would want to to witness cigar rolling (for commissions) and margaritas (for commissions), and so missing anything interesting, like the Bay of Pigs Memorial or the Dominoes Park. Anything of interest in downtown Miami was absent. The boat trip was ok if you want to look at rich people's mansions, after which there was the second tips collection of the tour. Then we had the return to base for the third tips collection of the tour. I truly believe that if the guides weren't so focussed on filling their coffers they could have made the whole trip more interesting.
A lot of he sites pointed out on land were the same ones on the boat portion. The stores & restaurants you're directed to seem like an advertising setup. I don't smoke so the cuban cigar store was useless to me. I found it ironic that we're allowed to bring mojitos back on board, but no food from the first stop...drinks are potentially messier. The boat rep rattled the directions to the boat way too fast. We got turned aroung the pier, couldn'tt see the name on the boat until it was pulling away without us! Fortunately we got transferred to another boat tour that was quite entertaining. It's a good way to kill time before a flight.
This is a barebones watered down bus trip that doesn’t show any of Miami’s amenities (I live in Miami) except from highway and main roads, and a stop in Little Havana to benefit the specific shop owners that probably have deals with this company. Boat trip was narrated by someone who fits more in a stand up comedian than a tour guide.
