Itinerary

We cover all the basics with dedicated one-on-one instruction. Youâ€™ll learn proper paddling, get up technique, and basic ocean safety. Most importantly, our goal is to get you riding a wave and having fun!
First 20 minutes of the lesson will be held on the beach to cover ocean safety, pop-up technique, and paddling. Remaining hour is in the water putting what we learned on the beach into action!

Dawn Patrol was not only fun and professional, they were service oriented from start to finish. From my first email, Jake got back to me with clear answers to my questions. And right up until the time we met he was always available for my questions. I have two grandsons who I wanted to give the quintessential Southen California Surf experience and both Jake and his Brother, Luke, provided that beautifully. With ten grandkids, I have thankfully found my “go to” surf connection. A great day with two capable and amiable surf instructors.

Great communication and awesome team. My son has always wanted to surf in CA but was nervous to go it alone. The guys were super nice and very good to him, he had the best experience. The photos were a plus and we will likely use a few for his yearbook senior pictures. Thanks guys!!

While in Malibu, my two children (11 and 13), took a week of lessons with Jake. These lessons were the highlight of our trip. My children got up on the boards the first day and with Jake's coaching they got better and better each day. In addition to teaching them the ropes, he was also very encouraging. At first we signed up for 3 lessons, but the kids were having so much fun that we added 2 more days. I 100% recommend Dawn Surf Patrol.

We are loving learning to surfing with these awesome brothers. As complete beginners and we are being introduced to the sport at our own pace. We cannot wait to become pros. Bring on the next lesson!

I am a beginner who was not familiar with surfing in Los Angeles -- and I definitely chose the best surf school. Jake and Luke are fantastic teachers. Their attentiveness and professional approach had me navigating the lineup, popping up on the surfboard and riding waves down the line with confidence. I plan to work with them each time I visit Southern California to surf.

Jake and Luke are very confident and competent in the water! A SSW swell made getting back up onto the board a challenge - but they considered tide, wind, breaks and skill level to optimize the experience. On my last day I brought three more folks to join in and they were super flexible and accommodating! I had a GREAT time!!!!

2 of my roommates and I did the hour and a half surf lesson in Malibu and had a riot. We all felt like we learned so much and are looking to do more lessons. We are excited to keep practicing what we learned and apply the practical pointers they gave us in the water. They make it fun and attainable to get up and surf the waves. After looking around at many surf schools in Malibu, this is the best of the best! We recommend Dawn Surf Patrol for people of all skill levels, ages, and experience. They answered all our questions and were really patient. Great lesson!

As a complete beginner, I spent A LOT of time looking for a surf school (I can be very particular), but never went with others because I'd find a questionable thing or two. I happened upon Dawn Patrol Surf by accident, and am so glad I did. They're very kind, flexible, easy to contact, and quick to respond. Jake is an awesome instructor. He's incredibly clear, helpful, and safe, and works well within your own personal ability. He'll point out and help adjust the little things about your technique that truly make a difference in maximizing your wave-catching potential. I've already taken several lessons and plan on taking many more.
